It’s not too early to get on board for the 2014 Athletic Revolution Summer Athlete Academy!

The goal of this training program, like all we do at AR, is to give each athlete who walks through our doors the tools to do one thing – Get Better.

Sounds like a no brainer?

Maybe not.

Almost anyone can train a teenage athlete to get stronger, but that is only a small part of the picture.

  • How does that new found strength translate to the court, the field, the water, or the track?
  • Is the athlete remaining flexible and injury free?
  • What about agility, coordination, reflexes and reaction?
  • Leadership, focus and teamwork?

There is no magic here. No tricks to jumping higher and running faster. As an athlete you must walk in the doors with focus, determination and the willingness to work hard and then some.

AR Athlete Academy is a 3 day a week program, Monday, Wednesday and Friday, from 10:00 to 11:15am. This is a 6-week Academy with 2 bonus/make-up days on August 11th and 13th.

Enrollment is limited, so please don’t delay getting your registration to us right away. Upon submitting your registration you will be sent a health history and champion profile to be completed and returned, and we will also give you a call so we can schedule an initial athlete assessment and answer any questions.

photo (1)We have a little less than 2 weeks left in the 2013 Athletic Revolution Summer Academy, and I have to tell you I am not ready for it to be over!

These Champions have been incredible. Sure, getting faster and stronger is part of the goal, but these athletes are high character, hard working and eager to get better. Each one epitomizes what an AR Champion should be and is.

Coach Erin and I are really going to miss having all of you in here 3 days a week, but don’t think you are getting rid of us. We look forward to getting you in here and keeping you healthy all season long.

The Athletic Revolution Strength and Conditioning Academy offers a 2 day or 3 day option. Athletic Revolution training is carefully designed to integrate and be effective with both options. Our coaches will discuss the training options with each athlete and evaluate together which plan is optimal.

Thinking Long Term in Youth Sports and Athletic Development

We live in a quick fix world. We want it, and we want it now!

The world of youth fitness and athletic development is no different.

We all want (or we want our kids) to jump higher, run faster, score more goals – the list is endless.

But when we focus solely on “Strength” or “Speed” or “Flexibility”, we are missing the complete picture.

Take Coordination for instance.

Did you know that Coordination has more than 10 separate components, including balance, kinesthetic differentiation, spatial awareness, movement adequacy and rhythm?

Or Flexibility.

Flexibility is about the length of tissue surrounding a joint, but MOBILITY is necessary for ensuring that a joint moves through proper ranges (thereby reducing injury risk and increasing strength, speed and power).

At Athletic Revolution we respect the difference between training adults and training kids, athlete or not.

Here’s a brief outline of the AR Developmental Training Model:

Discovery (Ages 6 – 9) – Creating A Champion -

The purpose of this phase is to introduce participants to a wide spectrum on non-specific exercise stimulus that aids in the natural development of coordination habits.

Athletic Revolution Coaches utilize the principle of ‘Outcome-Based Coaching’ which allows young participants to learn the physical skills of exercise through an experimental and self-discovery based means.

Exploration (Ages 10 – 13) – Transitioning To Champion -

Not unlike the ‘Discovery’ phase of the Athletic Revolution Developmental Model, ‘Exploration’ is based on young participants establishing ‘athletic intelligence’ through a carefully planned programming structure that allows them to learn and comprehend both simple and complex motor skills via explorative play.

Unlike ‘Discovery’ however, ‘Exploration’ also includes an educational portion within which Athletic Revolution Coaches breakdown and instruct participants on specific aspects of exercise execution.

This transitional phase allows young participants to bridge the gap from a play model of fitness to a more programmatic structured version.

Transformation (Ages 14+) – Becoming A Champion -

The ‘Transformation’ phase is where more concerted training application takes place. Whether the goal is sporting excellence, fitness, wellness or obesity prevention, this portion of the Athletic Revolution Developmental Model is based on solid execution and fundamental training habits so that each participant can maximize their respective goals.

Putting the System in Place

Ideally all of our champions would be enrolled in our long term core programming. This is the best way to ensure that each one has the best chance to maximize their learning and potential over the long term.

That being said we also offer shorter term programs in the form of  Clinics and Academies.

A Clinic is usually held on 1 day and is anywhere between 2 and 4 hours in length. The purpose of a clinic is to work on a specific skill, linear speed for instance.

An Academy is held over several days and can have several purposes. It could be a Strength and Conditioning Academy, such as the one we held over February break, or it could be more sports specific, such as a soccer or baseball academy.

Neither one of these models is intended to or can replace a long term model of athletic development, but they do serve a purpose.

They allow us to introduce Athletic Revolution to our communities parents and athletes. Clinics and Academies are a great way to see if we are a good fit for your family.

And yes, you will learn new skills that will transfer onto the field. You can’t just walk away and do nothing however, just as with any new skill it must be rehearsed and reinforced.

And that’s where our core offerings come in.

Now we understand that Athletic Revolution is not for everyone, and we don’t have to be. There are some coaches in the area that I respect that quite possibly could be a better fit for some kids and their families.

That’s perfect, because when it comes down to it it’s about doing what’s right for the kids that we have responsibility for.
